Hunt with a bow or a crossbow

To hunt with a bow or a crossbow, you must obtain your Hunter's Certificate coded A. This certificate is obtained upon successful completion of the course:

Introduction to hunting with bow or crossbow (IHBC), available online. 

*Note that the practical test for bow hunting was abolished in July 2020. Only successful completion of the IHBC course is now required for bow hunting.

Please note

To register for this course, you must be at least 12 years old (the day of the first course), be domiciled in Quebec and have resided in the province for at least 183 days during the last year. A photo ID will be required during the classroom course.

The special case of people who have obtained their "B" code on their Hunter's certificate between 2003 and 2006 following an IHF course: these people hold a hunter's certificate coded "B", allowing the use of the crossbow for hunting, and, since July 2020, also the use of the bow.

Sécurité nature reminds you to allow a period of 3 to 4 weeks following your course before receiving your certification.

 

Prohibitions:

It is not possible to take the IHBC course during the cancellation period of a hunter's certificate.

If you take this course during this period, it will not be recognized and you will not be reimbursed. You will have to take the course, pass it again and pay the corresponding fees at the end of the cancellation or prohibition order period.
